HOW TO CALCULATE THE REQUIRED ENERGY
For instance, if a 100kg of maize is given to you to make feeds. What will be the amount of energy?
Here is the calculation
100 X 3430 =3,430 calories. This is even above what any class of broilers needs
For learning, let's reduce the quantity of maize to 40kg
Then it will be:
40 X 3,430 /100 =1,372 calories
40 is the amount of maize in kg
3430 is the number of calories per kg
100 is the total amount of feeds to be formulated
1372 is the number of calories contributing by 40kg of maize.
The number of calories contributed by maize is not enough. The least calories needed is 2900 calories.
Now let take another source of energy. Preferably from proteinous food since the first one we picked was the source of energy, let me pick soybean.
From the list, the energy content of soya is 2450 calories. Note the soybeans we are referring to is whole soybean and not cake.

20 X 2450 /100 =490
The total energy now is 1372 + 490 = 1,862

Therefore , 818 +1862=2680
